Juiced Up

I told you a few weeks ago that I won a Cooler Cleanse- Juice for a Day giveaway from Camp Patton a few weeks ago and yesterday was the day.  A few friends asked me to share my thoughts about it, so here you go!

Juice for a Day consists of six 16oz. raw juices that you start at breakfast and drink every two hours.  You don't eat anything and you can only drink water and green tea in addition to the juices.  It is meant to give you "reset after a splurge or recommit to your happiest and healthiest eating habits."  I've been on a splurge since I found out I was pregnant with Beckett, so I was excited to get this little health boost.

Here are my thoughts on the juices:

#1- Sweet:  They start you off easy, it's fruity with a faint veggie flavor.

#2- Citrus:  More tangy than your regular sugar-filled OJ, but not bad.

#3- Green:  Lots of veggies and it tastes like a giant stalk of celery.  I drank this one down FAST.

#4- Spicy:  I was scared of this one because I don't like very spicy foods.  To my surprise, it wasn't bad at all- very acidic, but wasn't traditionally "spicy."

#5- Veggie:  Not bad, tasted like sweet carrots.

#6- Hemp:  This one was the worst for me.  It had the consistency of chocolate milk and the only fruit in it were dates.  To be honest, it made me nauseous and I had a seriously hard time getting the second half of the bottle down.

And here are my thoughts overall:

PROS

  • I felt very proud of all of the fruits and veggies that went into my body in just one day.  I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables anyways, but I also eat a lot of crap (i.e. cheese).
  • According to the website, I gave my digestive system a rest.  We all need a nap sometimes.
  • It's really, really healthy.
  • It's only 1,000 calories for the day...that could be a con too.
  • I never got super hungry...when I was getting close, it was time for another bottle.
CONS
  • I like to eat and by juice #3, I was kind of bored.  That's probably also being home with the kids all day and making food for Marley.
  • The cost.  It's $58/day and they suggest once a week.  That's a car payment, my hippie friends.
  • I felt like crap by the end of the day.  It probably didn't help that I'm breastfeeding and am burning even more calories.  I felt weak, tired, and REALLY wanting to eat something solid.
  • I have a headache that started yesterday afternoon and is still here 24 hours later.  I confess that I cheated and had one cup of coffee yesterday morning, but maybe the fact that I skipped my afternoon cup made my body angry.
It was fun, I was proud of my willpower, but I probably wouldn't do it again.  It was a good reminder to get the fruits & veggies in and eat healthy and it's always fun to win giveaways!
