My Baby Girl

Dear Marley Kate,

You turned one yesterday.  This blows my mind and I am still in shock that I have a baby, let alone a little girl who has been in my life for 365 days.  I'm a parent?  Weird.  But amazing, wonderful, hard, and rewarding, among a million other things all wrapped up into your happy little face.

Learning to be a mommy has been quite the experience for me and you have been a wonderful teacher.  Being completely responsible for your happiness and wellbeing is a huge gift and terrifyingly overwhelming at the same time...but I wouldn't have it any other way.  I didn't find my stride as a mom quite as easily as I thought I would, but still, your presence in our lives has been the most magical thing.  I absolutely adore the way that my voice and touch soothe you in an instant and I hope this is true forever.

I'm so proud of our first year together and as much as I've loved the stages you've already gone through (except for the first two months...I really didn't love that time...and I'm not afraid to admit it), I am beyond excited to play at the park with you, to take you to the zoo and every other place that is new to you, and to watch you discover the world.  I can't wait to have conversations with you (when you can respond) and get to know little you.  I am so looking forward to see the kinds of things that you like & the choices you make.

Marley, our first year together has been a fast roller coaster of emotions, adjusting, and learning.  I do feel like I've taken the time to dwell in many of the quiet, special moments that I've had with you, knowing that they would be gone before I could even appreciate them.  I could cry my eyes out knowing that some of those times are over, but I won't (that's a total lie, yes I will), instead I will continue to try to live in and cherish every moment of your life that is mine while you are little.

I love you more than I know how to express, Sweet Pea.

Love, Your Mommy

(Friends, thanks for reading!  I needed to get this out & recorded before the rush of life sweeps us up again and Marley is starting driver's ed.)
