I've had a lovely cold since Saturday- perfect when you are starting a new job that involves lots of contact with someone else's toddlers. However, the new nanny job is going well- I'm happy to have something to do and to finally being able to contribute to our income.
Mark's been working insane hours and I've barely seen him lately. He is finishing up his 9th day in a row of working 12-14 hours. I don't think he's worked a day less than 12 hours since he started at this company...lame. I'm glad our ultrasound tomorrow forces him to take a half-day...we plan on relaxing at my parents house for a while afterwards. I'll be posting some ultrasound pictures of our little baby (or alien as they generally look on the ultrasounds) later this week!

Happy Saturday! I'm trying to make a point to not write all of my posts about the new little life that will be coming into our world in a few months. But, it is the biggest thing happening in our lives right now, so I wanted to post some updates!
First, I felt the baby move this week! What a crazy feeling- like someone is poking me from the inside...which, he or she is :) VERY amazing and it made the pregnancy more real, since I've been feeling good and don't have much of a bump yet (unless it's the end of the day and I've been eating a lot :).
Second, we ordered baby furniture last weekend! We went with my parents and ordered the Annabelle crib and changing table above from Million Dollar Baby. We love it and can't wait to set up the nursery...but, we need to find a house to rent first in November...details, schmetails.
Finally, we bought the Graco Maddox travel system about a month ago. It seemed a bit early, but we are trying to space out the big purchases, so as not to break the bank.
We have our big anatomy ultrasound on Wednesday and we are looking forward to seeing Baby R again and making sure that he or she is healthy!

So, now that I'm an old pro at subbing, I got a part-time nanny job! It will be Monday-Wednesday all day for 15-month-old twins (a boy and a girl). The money isn't awesome, but it's more than I'd make subbing on those days and the "unknown" factor is taken away. They were a little bit desperate as their last sitter didn't work out and for that reason, they are okay with me being pregnant and only being able to work through January. I start on Monday and I'm looking forward to it!

I finally did it. My substitute teaching paperwork finally cleared yesterday and on a whim, I accepted my first job for today. I took it right away because it was the only job that was listed and it was a first grade position. I taught first grade for the last two years, so I figured that I could handle it and that it was a sign that it should be mine.
I tend to overworry about new things. As my mom said- I always have. I was terrified to go to first grade at a new school when I was 6, I dreaded wearing my new glasses to school in 4th grade, and interviews and first days at new jobs make me want to throw up. I hate this about myself, but that's just the way it is. I am a creature of habit and I like knowing what I'm getting into when I walk into a room...school...date...etc. For this reason, substitute teaching is not ideal for me in this respect because of the many unknowns. So last night, I was totally nervous, I slept horribly, and it took me a few extra minutes to get out of my car and walk into the school this morning.
As always, I worried for nothing. I found the school just fine (thanks to Brenda, our GPS), everyone was extremely friendly, and first graders two weeks into the school year are the same in Michigan as they are in Colorado. I am VERY happy to have the first day of subbing over with, lets hope the next is just as successful!

- Sweet Revenge- This is not technically one of my favorite things, because I've never been there. However, given the fact that this bar in New York City combines two of my favorite things- cupcakes and wine, I am sure that I would fall in love with it if I were actually able to go there.
-Cinnamon Bun Bars- I found this recipe while I was looking for something breakfast-themed to make for tomorrow's 8am Michigan tailgate. I am in love. They fall apart when you try to cut them, but they involve a box of yellow cake mix and taste just like cinnamon rolls with very little work. Divine.
-Denard Robinson- Michigan's QB who is stealing the hearts of all Wolverines these days...keep it up!
-Being 18 weeks pregnant tomorrow!!
Have a great weekend- Go Blue!!

Today was a rainy cold day in Michigan- I love these kind of days...just not too many of them in a row. I took the gloomy day opportunity to get my creative juices flowing. My sewing machine and I have a love-fear relationship. I love when I make something that I am proud of, but when something doesn't turn out right, I run away from it in fear...for months at a time.
But, finally, I successfully made 3 burp cloths that I absolutely love! I have attempted burp cloths before with terry cloth, and the result was sad and I abandoned my idea for approximately 5 months. This time, I used cloth diapers and I am very happy with them...and I think they are baby worthy!
Yep, that's a pirate burp cloth....arrrgh!

I can't believe it's Friday again! The days pass by rather slowly right now, seeing as I haven't started substitute teaching yet (waiting for my paperwork to clear) and we don't know many people up here. Right now, much to my dismay, I live for the weekends. This weekend, we are having a few friends over tomorrow to watch the Michigan- Notre Dame game (GO BLUE!) and then we are going to the Renaissance Festival on Sunday...I'm entirely too excited about that!
Here are a few of my favorite things this week!
-Enjoying the Small Things- This is a blog by Kelle Hampton that my friend Jenny introduced me to (thanks Jenny!). Kelle has two daughters and the younger one has Down Syndrome. I adore Kelle's writing and photographs and I am inspired by her unconditional love for her little girls as well as the joy she finds in the "small things."
-Pumpkin Spice Bread- Once fall sets in, I feel a strong need to make anything that contains pumpkin. I started yesterday by making pumpkin bread and it was SO good. I have 3 months to bake...yum!
-Paying off credit cards- My American Express is finally paid off and it feels unbelieveable! I worry about money every. single. day. and I am so happy to be able to kiss one of our bills goodbye! We are also going to knock a big chunk off of Mark's card this week too- hooray for being responsible! Our goal is to only use the credit cards for emergencies in the future...we learned our lesson in our 20's and now realize that credit cards aren't worth the worry. At all.
That's all for today- have a lovely fall weekend!

Today, I spent a few hours getting rid of junk that I've been holding onto for years. Things like a shoebox of CD's, out of their cases that have moved around with me from Ann Arbor, to Chicago, to East Lansing, to Breckenridge, to Frisco, to Denver, to Fort Collins, and now finally to Saginaw. They are all scratched, many beyond playable, and for some reason I couldn't let them go. What if I just had to hear 'NSync's "Bye Bye Bye" again? (Sadly, I am mourning the loss of that one.) But for the most part, the songs I want are on my iTunes and I was happy to finally get rid of the infamous shoebox...so was Mark.
I have boxes, drawers, and envelopes full of trinkets and treasures that remind me of many happy times in my life. I only catch glimpses of them when I move, but they reassure me that those days actually existed, they weren't just fleeting moments that have long since passed. I'm not a creepy hoarder, don't get the wrong idea. I'm not sure if it's the baby coming, or the fact that we live in a small apartment right now with half of our belongings in a storage unit, but today felt like the right time to get rid of some old "stuff."
It felt extremely cleansing to say goodbye to some of these things, and I still have the pictures to prove that those days existed...18 photo albums, but that's a story for another day! More exciting, blissful days are to come and I'm sure that I will be collecting many more trinkets in the future. With all of the things that will accumulate with having children, it seems crazy to be holding onto some of the things that I was. We just don't have the physical room...or the emotional room, as weird as that sounds.
Treasures that made the "keeper" cut:
-A Michigan Skiing flask from a trip to Blue Mountain in college
-A wide assortment of hair ties/headbands/clips, etc.
-A Balmers pin from our European backpacking adventure in 1999
-A game card from Jillian's- the site of Mark & I's first date
-A Wee Little Garden Gnome...because it's funny
Trinkets that got tossed:
-Various ticket stubs, ranging from a UM hockey game in 2000 to the Nutcracker in Denver
-Empty, pretty Tiffany's boxes and bags
-An old curling iron and Microplane foot-scraper (gross)
-180 old, scratched, and well-loved CD's
-An envelope full of pictures from my time in Breckenridge that I have copies of in my albums
-School pictures of my sibs and cousins from approximately middle school...sorry guys :)
Our load of possessions just got a *tiny* bit lighter and it feels great!

I feel that it would be unfair not to share my latest cooking accomplishment- individual cheesecakes. I found the individual raspberry cheesecake recipe on my favorite food blog, Annie's Eats. She calls them cupcakes, but they really aren't, so I took some artistic license and changed the name a bit. Here are the variations that I've made so far:
(My apologies for the picture quality)
I am usually not the biggest cheesecake fan, but my family is (especially the husband) and these are absolutely decadent. These are the perfect treat because they are individually portioned and there are so many variations that you could make...I'm thinking pumpkin-caramel for the fall, Snickers, perhaps a Bailey's/Guiness version for St. Patty's Day...and the list goes on!

I have only one favorite thing today...can you guess what it is?
The kickoff to football season is tomorrow in Ann Arbor with the Wolverines playing UConn at 3:30. Thanks to our friend, Brian Galvin (Happy Birthday!), Mark & I are going to the game. It'll be Mark's first time witnessing the magic that is football Saturday in Ann Arbor as well as the awe of walking into Michigan Stadium for the first time. It's my first time back in over 5 years and I am beyond excited. GO BLUE!!

Mark & I have wonderful news to share....we are expecting our first baby in February!
We are beyond excited and can't wait to share the joy of this new life with our family and friends this winter. It's been a long road to get here with two miscarriages last year and though the journey isn't over, we are thrilled to be 16 weeks pregnant right now! We have had 3 great ultrasounds and we are very hopeful that this is our take-home baby. All that I have ever wanted to be is a mom and I am so looking forward to starting this new chapter in our lives.
Baby updates & pictures to come!

I am so excited that it is September! Fall is my favorite season of the year and I am very excited to be back in Michigan to enjoy the season in such a beautiful place. Yes, I know that technically Fall doesn't start for a few more weeks, but September is the start of Fall for me!
Here is a photo montage of what I love about Fall!!
I could go on. I hope you had a fabulous first day of fall- let the leaves change (and the temperatures cool off!)!
